Launched in 2012, the GSS cIRcle Open Scholar Award is a lottery-style $500 Award which showcases unique, exemplary non-thesis graduate work at UBC that is not captured anywhere else. This Award enables UBC Vancouver graduate students to expand and disseminate their research-focused, non-thesis work at UBC and beyond. The non-thesis graduate student work is vetted by their UBC faculty or research advisors.
Award submissions can include any of the following types of material:
- Audio based projects
- Authorized versions of published articles based on course-related research
- Essays or manuscripts
- Graduating projects or papers
- Presentations (including posters)
- Software code
- Technical reports
- Video based projects
Are you a currently registered UBC Vancouver graduate students? If so, here are some ways you can start benefitting from this Award:
- Becoming a participant, advocate and/or mentor in the open dissemination of UBC research
- Learning more about your author rights, copyright, open access and more
- Sharing your research knowledge with others who have limited access due to paywalls
- Receiving a persistent link(s) that you and others can cite (i.e. CVs, websites, publications, etc.)
- Enabling non-UBC researchers to find your work via web search engines (i.e. Google Scholar, etc.)
- Watching your research item(s) usage statistics grow from local to global exposure via cIRcle
Along with your final UBC thesis or dissertation, your Award submission(s) enhances your UBC research legacy and will spur current and future UBC Vancouver graduate students to do the same.
